On Palm Sunday, the congregation gathered to hear how Jesus entered Jerusalem to publicly claim his calling as God's Messiah, challenging the status quo and proclaiming a new, different way. Our choir also led us in a processional hymn, "Hosanna to the Living Lord," and shared the anthem, "On the Road to Jerusalem."

Happy Easter! As we gathered to worship together on Easter Sunday, we heard the good news of the resurrection from Matthew 28. Pastor Adam highlighted the calling and willingness of two women, Mary Magdalene and another Mary, to share the amazing news they witnessed at the tomb, and he reminded us how all of us are called to share what good news we know with those around us. The choir also offered a beautiful anthem, "Empty Now," and a choral benediction, "Alleluia! Christ is Risen!"

Holy Week showcases the story of Jesus' final week in Jerusalem with his disciples, and many of the parts of that story are familiar. Yet one group of characters is often overlooked or pushed to the side: the women of Holy Week. Throughout this week, we will hear their stories and ponder what they reveal to us about the great love of God as shown in Christ's death and resurrection. On this Friday of Holy Week, we join Jesus' female disciples as they watch their Lord die.
Throughout Holy Week, we want to encourage you to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus. Here on the podcast, we will offer daily reflections for your own devotional use. On Thursday April 6, Farmville Baptist will join with Heritage Baptist Church at 7 PM for a Maundy Thursday service, and Heritage will join Farmville Baptist on Friday April 7 for a noontime Good Friday service.

In worship this week, we were thrilled to host Cesar Sotomayor, a pastor and church planter in Graz, Austria. Cesar is connected to Farmville Baptist through the work of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the European Baptist Fellowship. In worship, Cesar brought news of his work with refugees and congregational ministry. He also brought a word of encouragement: God's gospel is shared with the world through the beautiful people of God. The choir also shared their anthem, "Believer's Prayer." Let us worship God together.
Cesar Sotomayor pastors in Graz, Austria; he chronicles his work there through his Facebook page (Cesar Sotomayor | Facebook). He also serves on the mission and evangelism team for the European Baptist Federation (Mission & Evangelism | EBF).

For this week's episode of worship, we come to the end of Matthew 5 with what may be Jesus' most controversial (and, frankly, offensive) teaching: love our enemies. Pastor Adam walks us through the passage, and gets to tell one of his favorite stories from history at the same time. Ultimately, we are invited to choose the most disproportionate of responses - to love our enemies - because we are becoming more like Christ. Let us worship God together.

In this episode, we hear Jesus’ teaching about turning the other cheek, giving up more than what’s required, and going the extra mile – all incredibly disproportionate responses to those who may hurt us or try to exploit us. Yet they are not disproportionate responses of violence; rather, they are disproportionate responses of love. The choir also shares this week’s anthem, “Lonesome Valley.” Let us worship God together.
