Episode 016 - Baptist General Association of Virginia/Ascent - A Conversation with Dr. Wayne Faison

For 187 years, Farmville Baptist Church has partnered with the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). Not only is the partnership long, it also is involved; Bill Wilson, Gene Watson, and Adam Tyler have all served as presidents of the BGAV. As the BGAV approaches its 200th anniversary, it is helping churches adapt to a challenging and moving in new directions itself. Pastor Adam sat down for a conversation with the new executive director of the BGAV, Dr. Wayne Faison, to find out how things are going, what the BGAV is doing to help churches adapt to a changing world, and even get a hint of what a good church meal looks like. Wayne also introduces Ascent, a partnership for re-evangelizing North America, and invites all of us to join a movement of prayer.

Episode 015 - Sermon - Called to Disruption and Discipleship (Matthew 4:12-23)

Jesus invites people to follow him - but what does that mean? And how does following Jesus affect, or disrupt, our lives? Pastor Adam leads us in a reflection on how Jesus proclaims a message that does lead in a different way than "life as we know it," and challenges us to ponder how much really want Jesus to disrupt our lives and call us to discipleship.

Every one of us is different, and we look for meaning and purpose in life, not to mention salvation, in many different ways.  Jesus understood this, and it's why he asked two disciples wondering about him, "What are you looking for?"  They came to find, along with many others Jesus encountered, that whatever their concern or need was, he could provide salvation.  Join Pastor Adam and the worshipping family at Farmville Baptist in exploring the ways Jesus provides salvation and invites us all to "come and see" what he can bring to our lives.

Farmville Baptist Church has a long history with the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) for Longwood and Hampden-Sydney.  In January, Pastor Adam visited the BCM to check in with Rev. Episode 012 - Sermon - Identity Check (Matthew 3:13-17 and Isaiah 42:1-9)

In this episode of worship, Pastor Adam invites us to consider the meaning of Jesus' baptism. Jesus didn't need repentance, the main purpose of John's baptism, but he did want to publicly embrace his identity in God. This identity included God's deep passion for and commitment to justice. How does Jesus reflect this focus of God's kingdom?  And how does a pursuit of justice define us as followers of Jesus and children of God?

The CBF of Virginia is one of the ministry partners of Farmville Baptist Church. In December, Pastor Adam had the chance to sit down and chat with the new coordinator for CBF of Virginia, Rev. Episode 007 - The Farmville Youth Collective Takes Flight

One of the exciting new partnerships Farmville Baptist Church is celebrating is the Farmville Youth Collective (FYC).  This is a collaborative effort with Farmville United Methodist Church and Johns Memorial Episcopal Church to create a safe and spiritually-engaging space for teenagers in the Farmville community and the surrounding area.  Rev. Cadance Tyler is the pastor for the FYC, and she and Rev. Susie Thomas (FUMC) and the Very Rev. Dr. Nancy Meck (JMEC) sit down with Pastor Adam to talk about the new ministry and their plans for the new year, and also share some last-minute Christmas shopping ideas.
