Welcome to worship for the week of September 24, 2023; we're glad you're here!  This week, the congregation gathered together around tables for our annual picnic and incorporated worship as part of our gathering, so the service was a bit laid-back. The worship episode this week thus includes the Scripture passage and the short message, but also includes 4 discussion questions that we shared around the table; take time to talk them through with someone around your table this week.
- What are the things in life that we tend to complain about?
- How many of them are tied to ideas of 'scarcity' and 'enough'?
- What does it mean to have an abundance?
= What is liberating about embracing a perspective of 'enough'?

Welcome to worship for the week of September 17, 2023; we're glad you're here! This week, God continues to bend the universe towards justice in the iconic story of the crossing of the Red Sea. In the sermon, Pastor Adam revisits the epic events of that incredible night, and how we, like the Israelites, have a choice to make in whether or not to be part of God's great liberation in the world.

Welcome to worship for the week of September 10, 2023; we're glad you're here! This week, we continue to think about how God bends the universe towards justice in the story of the exodus from Egypt. Pastor Adam explores the story of the first Passover and how that great ritual of liberation served the Hebrew community as a grounding event of identity and as a reminder of who God called them to be. What rituals do we have that do the same? Our bell choir also shares the anthem, "How Great Thou Art."

It's summertime at the Farmville Baptist Podcast, and we figured that meant it was a good time to host some special topical episodes.  The theme for this summer's special episodes is a core Baptist principle: religious freedom.  An evergreen issue, understanding what Baptists mean when we discuss religious freedom is especially important in a society where religion is impacting public life in many ways, including calls for the adoption of Christian nationalism.
In this final special episode for the summer, Pastor Adam sat down with Amanda Tyler, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and one of the organizers of the Christians Against Christian Nationalism movement. Amanda brings a wealth of experience in issues of religious freedom to the conversation, and she and Adam discuss the meaning of religious freedom, the definition of Christian nationalism and why it is concerning for those who treasure religious freedom, and other work of the Baptist Joint Committee.
The work of the Baptist Joint Committee and Christians Against Christian Nationalism can be found in many places online. Good places to start are bjconline.org and christiansagainstchristiannationalism.org. Check these sites out; both the BJC and Christians Against Christian Nationalism can also be found on Instagram and other social media channels.

Welcome to worship for the week of August 20, 2023! This week, we concluded our summer look at how to be more like Christ, using Paul's letter to the Philippians as our guide. In this week's sermon, Pastor Adam explores the all-too-relatable conflict between two of Paul's friends in Philippi, and the final plea Paul makes for them, and all the Philippians, to live like Jesus. Our choir concludes the service with their anthem, "In Christ Alone." Thanks for joining us!
